Question:
How do I update the preloaded maps on my Garmin device?
Answer:
To update the maps on your Garmin Preloaded GPS unit, please follow the steps below:
Visit the Find Map Updates page and choose the type of device that you would like to update.
This page requires the Garmin Communicator Plug-in. Follow the prompts on screen to install this software.
Connect and select your device once it is found. If you don't have a USB cable you can simply enter the serial number of your device and click 'Find Map Updates'.
The following page will display the update options available for your device.
If you qualify for a free map update1 you will be notified to either 'Sign In' to your existing myGarmin account or 'Register a Device'.
If you do not qualify for a free map update and would like to purchase a map update you can now add either a nuMaps Onetime or nuMaps Lifetime update to your cart and complete the checkout process.
Once you have ordered either your free update or your paid update you can begin the download process2:
Log in to your myGarmin account
Click the myMaps tab (wait a moment for the page to finish loading)
Note2: The nuMaps Lifetime update is available in download format only. The nuMaps Onetime update is available in download or DVD format. To ensure you get the latest maps, we recommend the downloadable version for this map update. A high speed internet connection is required for downloadable mapping.
