QuestionHow do the FR70 and FR60 calculate calories?
Answer:

The FR70 and FR60 calculate calories based on a heart rate calculation generated by Garmin. This generic heart-rate-rate based calorie count uses the following information to determine calories:

  • Heart rate*
  • Activity class
  • Gender
  • Weight

The FR60 will need to be updated to software version 2.40 or higher to use this calorie formula.

*If a heart rate monitor is not being used, the FR70 and FR60 will determine calories based on speed or pace. This will require a Garmin Speed/Cadence Sensor (GSC 10) for cycling or a Garmin Foot Pod for running/walking.
